Aruba - Netherland Antilles

In order to use up a balance of free Marriott certificates left over from the Christmas Markets trip as well as use up free positive space travel on JetBlue . . . we planned a trip to Aruba during the cold spell in Utah. Aruba's boring 84 degree weather everyday we were there had us spending most of our time at the beach on a beach chair reading.

Had to try another hold out the camera and try to take a shot photo.
Melanie was able to push the wheelchair to the cabana closest to a sidewalk so we could make it over to a chair. Marriott folks kept that one reserved for us. Walking on a beach is a major challenge, but we made the few steps there with Melanie's help.
Different than the foot of snow we left behind for a few days.

Aruba - Dutch Delft Blauw Pottery

Just before leaving for home, we are seen here with Lisa Thomas. Lisa is the 'font' of knowledge of everthing Aruban. She is employed by the Aruba Marriott Resort because of her knowledge and vibrant personality. She and Melanie became fast friends in a short time during our stay. When Melanie asked about Delft pottery on this Netherland Antilles Island, Lisa spoke with authority. The next day she said she wanted to see Melanie before we left, that she had something for her.
Sure enough, when we saw her the next day, she presented Melanie with this large Delft Blauw vase that she had in her home and said she did not have room for due to downsizing. Melanie cried at her generosity. It certainly was a highlight of the trip to Aruba. Thank you Lisa !

Tournament of Roses - The Parade

The Parade - The Tournament of Roses . Always wanted to see it in person. This year a special float honoring organ donors including Riley England was the incentive to make the trip to Pasadena. (See the "Stars" float for organ donors in a section below)
The floats did not disappoint. Spectacular works of art.
All made of flowers and other plant life. You know the story.
An added bonus was a close range fly over by a USAF B-2 Spirit Stealth bomber. Wow !

Tournament of Roses Parade - Organ Donor Stars

This is the "Stars" float. Dedicated to organ donors. We wanted to especially see this float in honor of Riley England whose organs were donated after his young life was taken. Riley's picture likeness is on the float made of flowers.
Recipients of organ donors were riding on the float to honor those who gave so that they might live.
